I have stumbled upon a truly inspiring modern essayist. He is XXXX of Harpers Magazine (I don't remember his name, i shall input it later). XXXX writes with inspiring prose on behest of the most important fundamental principles upon which the United States was built. This principle is also one which forms the very heart of the Wisdom Project. It is unbridled, unrestrained, impassioned free speech, free exchange of arguments, ideas, and solutions which forms the mulch from which flowers are born and bloom. Though at times the air may smell ripe and swampy with some of the things people say, it is the fact that we are all free to speak that leads to the growth of the greatest and most beautiful genius of our culture.
It is not that we must all agree, it is that we must all speak, argue, debate, brainstorm, negotiate, compromise, and speak some more. Dissent cannot and must not ever be silenced. Every one of us deserves the right to hold an opinion and speak it to who ever will listen.
We should not fear voices of dissent. If they are wrong they shall be proved wrong. If they have a valid point, then let them be heard! It is easy to dismiss and toss away bad ideas for they are common and easy to spot. It is impossible to embrace a good idea or argument if one never has the opportunity to hear it.
The sacred and precious right to speak one’s mind freely is perhaps the single value which all participants in the wisdom project may share. I do not intend to invite and welcome only one perspective or party. The Wisdom Project is a forum in which all people are invited to share what they know, ask questions, debate, discuss, and learn. The only measure of what a person says here shall be the value of what they have to say-and every one of us will work together to determine that value.
