Lots of brainstorming about how best to manage this Project. I have been researching how other think tanks operate.

Some reflections on the Wisdom Rating.
Whether or not individual post rating actually will translate into a reflection of a person’s genuine “Wisdom” depends of course upon the nature of the discussion. On an average message board posts would be rated highly for any number of reasons. For instance posts might be rated highly for their entertainment value, which certainly is not an indication of Wisdom.

So I have started to realize the best way to use the individual post rating is to use it differently based upon the purpose of each forum. Again, this could easily be modeled upon the setup of the Straight dope and other forums.

Questions of Fact (General Questions)
Questions of Opinion (IMHO)
The Lyceum (Great Debates)
Anything Goes

The people with the highest rated posts under questions of Fact will be people who at least appear to “know” the most or to ask the best questions. Therefore we could use the individual post ratings there as an indicator of “Intelligence”.

The people with the highest rated posts in the Opinion forums (small questions and big questions) will indeed be people who appear to have the most insight and genuine “Wisdom”. Therefore we could use the post ratings in those forums to generate a wisdom rating.

The open general discussion forums will have all sorts of dialogue. The post ratings in that forum will best be used to score someone as to their level of “entertainment value”.

Notes on the transition from private ownership to Non-profit operations
The Wisdom Project must become a registered non-profit corporation
The domain must be bought.
The webspace must be purchased.
The website must be moved to a webspace owned and operated by the non-profit corporation.
The Wisdom Project must acquire minimal ongoing funding to ensure continued critical operations.

I have just made the realization that though I am currently the sole builder designer architect of the Wisdom Project…this machine destined to foster wisdom… If I truly want it to take off and grow into what it could be, I will have to release it from my control…let it go…

Difficult as it may be…this living wisdom fostering beast I have constructed using my passion, judgement, imagination, and life blood...this beast of wit, intrigue, critical thinking, and judgement will one day need to be released into the wild and allowed to evolve into whatever it may.

I must trust in my fundamental design, in the fundamental belief that wisdom shall indeed be its ever sought goal. I must trust that I will be proud of the result.

That day is approaching. This Wisdom Project is not meant to be privately owned…it is meant to fly free, fed only by the ideas, dreams, passions, and inspirations of the people drawn to it. It’s destiny is beyond anything I could possibly guide it towards using my meager wits. I am destined to be but a footnote in its story.

Sigh. So much for my ego.

O me golly, massive revamp of the entire Wisdom Project website!!

We now are blogging. I magically went back in time and loaded blog data since August 2003! The site is ready. Once GJ finishes the hack the initial think tank machinery will be ready.

Update on the Alphaworld Castles
Taj dropped out. Crazy Pills told me friday, "they are coming along nicely". He hasn't responded to my requests regarding when he will be finished. He is a wee bit frustrating...Makes me reconsider hiring 14 year old boys to do all our vital computer work heh. But who knows he might make some heavenly meeting halls for us.

The Wisdom Project Front page needs to be redone.
It will need:
a link to the Wisdom Project Forums naturally.
A link to an about the Wisdom Project
The Wisdom Project is a privately owned organization whose mission is to foster wisdom through dialogue.

Opening Page
In an age of information overload it is even more clear that we don’t simply need more knowledge, we desperately need to know what knowledge is the most worthy of pursuit. Knowing what is worth knowing…that is wisdom, and that is what the wisdom project is dedicated to help foster.

What questions and problems are the most important to us? To them? To humanity?
And then, what are the best answers and solutions to those problems?

These are the two questions the Wisdom Project asks again and again…and tries to answer. The result is shared in order to guide appropriate action and foster further discussion and learning.

The Wisdom Project first Cash Prize Dialogue

To help guide the development of the Wisdom Project, you are invited to attend our first Project Staff meeting on XXX/XXX/XXX in our special virtual meeting hall.

The Wisdom Project Blog (Coming Soon)
I have realized that the Wisdom Project development I am tracking within this journal is basically perfect Blog material. A Blog it turns out is a journal of chronological entries for…any subject. (This is also something I finally discovered today).
Promotion…paid advertising…or cash prizes…or..

The Wisdom Project is a think tank unlike any other. I need help to get it off the ground. Maybe I should invite this guy: http://www.theslowlane.com/editor.html\
He actually started his own one man think tank.

Attracting and Maintaining Quality Contributors
I have realized another way to think of the Wisdom Project Machine. It is a type of think tank. (Yes, I know this may have been quite obvious…but I am slow sometimes.)

The Wisdom Project is an open democratic think tank. Anyone can contribute, participate, and influence the product of the Wisdom Forum Think Tank. Therefore it is truly democratic. Yet, the machinery and the wisdom rating system determines which contributions end up being presented as a final product.

Cash Prizes can be the initial stimulation, but eventually the mere prestige of having a high wisdom rating, or having the highest rated post of the month will hopefully be enough to motivate people to contribute. Many people are addicted to such debate and dialogue anyways…

Monthly Newsletter/Publication
Once the machine gains enough momentum a monthly publication featuring the “wisest” solutions would be an easy step.

The Culture of Dialogue
I want the dialogue in the Wisdom Forum to be continuously driven to be as accessible and clear as possible. Life is not that complicated, but intellectuals often obfuscate discussions to such a degree it completely alienates most people.

All people want to live happy lives.
In order to be happy all people need several things.
For example, all children need an education.
Or for another example, all adults need a job.

I want to invite the most revered economics and political science thinkers in the world to post on our site, but I do not want these basic needs reduced to a tidal wave of economic theory, statistics, and subtle reflections on the power of interest rates. I want them to state clearly their solution to the problem that millions of people do not have jobs.
For instance, if an economist says we should reduce an interest rate in order to stimulate the economy…how does this suggestion actually relate to the million people without jobs?

Abstracting for the Masses
Perhaps…whenever someone posts something particularly long and intricate, perhaps even thoroughly researched and backed up with statistics, then we could have people abstract the “solution” into something much easier to digest.

For example, a detailed and easy to grasp synopsis of things like:

The No Child Left Behind Law
This law basically does 2 things:
It requires that every child in every school takes the same set of standardized tests in order to track the performance of the schools.
It sets minimum performance standards and any schools that fail to meet these standards will be forced to take “corrective action” and then possibly face total “reorganization” .
In a nutshell, the motivation for schools, administrators and teachers lay in the fact that “corrective action” and “reorganization” can very easily mean LOSS OF JOBS. So it is basically shape up or ship out.
Any schools that are substandard will have some additional funding available to help them improve.

Slogan, Motto, Mission Statement
The Wisdom Project: Fostering learning through dialogue.
An organization promoting education, communication, and healthy discussion of our most important problems.

Recruiting Volunteers
Found a great template for recruiting volunteer help at:
http://www.gov.on.ca/OMAFRA/english/rural/facts/96-005.htm

I have changed my mind. I need volunteers to help get the site rolling and at the very least to help promote our first cash prize debate. I need as many volunteers as possible.

I need to be able to sell the noble inspiring mission of the Wisdom Project. Even if they don’t initially understand the power of Wisdom ratings, anyone can understand the concept of an organization promoting healthy debate and dialogue of important problems.

I have also started to wonder if the Wisdom Project Machine with its no nonsense ratings system will prove very painful for new visitors. Of course, the most important ratings are those found in the little problems and big problems forums. I don’t want people afraid to post little problems for fear of being rated low… Perhaps there should only be the capacity to rate posts within the Big Problems forum? And the Problem solving society forum??

Recruiting and Utilizing Volunteers
Just did a bunch of research about recruiting and using volunteers.

Recruiting and managing volunteers can easily turn in to more work than simply doing all the work myself. I will need to strategize very carefully for tasks that are worth my wild to recruit others to do.

One of the other major tips I learned was that if you are going to recruit volunteers to help you, you must have precise jobs ready to go for them….

So let’s think about this. Perhaps what I should do is formally create positions in my organization. That way when someone expresses interest and or accepts the position they realize they are really committing to regular participation and work. The first such position may be “Wisdom Project Master Architecht for ActiveWorlds” which I informally gave to Crazy Pills…even though he is a pain to talk to. I may have gotten carried away with that one.

Wisdom Project Promotional Director
The next and most urgent position is “Wisdom Project Promotional Director” Someone to manage promoting the cash prize debates. Researching newsgroups and sites to announce the debate. Researching newspapers and magazines to which to submit Press Releases. Someone to help manage plastering specific college campuses with announcements. Someone to help research and compile a list of High School and college debate clubs email and mailing formal invitation to participate. Someone to help recruit volunteers to do the footwork of plastering advertizments all over college campuses.

The length of this job could simply be until the date of the first cash prize debate. Then their work is done and they can move on if they wish…or stay on board.

Sent User Report card instructions to GJ

Ok there is a part 4: Member Report Card

This is another statistics page. It will calculate and display the top 10 most rated posts and the top 10 highest rated “solutions”. It will also display the top 10 highest rated “comments”. But this page I want to only calculate and display stats for posts by an individual member. In other words, GJ will be able to see his own 10 highest rated solutions, most controversial, and highest rated comments. I think this report card should be a link off of the User Control Panel.

Ok, if this makes sense please add this to this project. I will up the price to $25 for this. Thanks.

Next on the agenda: Recruit help and evolve forums

Altered the Entrance to the Wisdom Project Machinery
I have changed the design of the entrance into the Wisdom Project Machine. It will begin with a very simple initial filter of choices: 5 Forums

About the Wisdom Project
Little Problems
Big Problems
Judge and Jury
Anything Goes

The Problem Solving Society
The Problem Solving Society will continue to exist since the questions and forums within it are eternal and already have begun to attract discussion. In any case the forums above are the main entrance to the machine.

Next tasks on the agenda:• Set up first Wisdom Project Staff Meeting in one of our Active World’s meeting halls.
• Enlist GJ, our MySQL XMB message board hacker, to add specific categories to posts. At least: Type of Post (Solution/Answer, Question, Comment, OP) We need to be able to distinguish between criticism and comments and genuine solutions/answers.
• Recruit favorite poster’s from SDMB great debates.
• Schedule first Wisdom Project cash prize debate.
• Determine formulas and queries for calculating Highest wisdom rating per member, solution, etc…
• Enlist GJ to create graphical report function for any thread or forum.
• Enlist GJ to create graphical report cards for each member.

Further thoughts: Recruit or launch? Recruit or launch?
I have decided it will be MUCH easier for people to understand the power of the Wisdom Project “machine” if we put some fuel into the engine. So I will schedule the first Prize debate asap, then have an open invitation for interested parties to meet with me in our AlphaWorld Castle in the sky. In order to achieve this I need to:

Get GJ to insert a field for Type of Post (Answer/Solution, Comment/Question/Criticism)

Construct some form of promotional strategy. Press Releases, Newsgroups, anything I else I can think of that is free. Maybe even go to some universities in Seattle and Post flyers. Contact High school debate teams. Email personal invitations to Great Debates veterans.

Set a date.

Promote it.

Construct Reports and queries to calculate winner.

Get GJ to create Reports.

2 Builders 3 Castles in the Sky

A 14 year old boy named Crazy Pills has agreed to build us a Castle in the sky in both AWTeen and AlphaWorld. He refuses to let me see the work in progress, but he says it will be done by this Friday, Oct 17th. Crazy Pills seems to be a talented builder, but he is very difficult to communicate with. I am wondering if English is his second language…or if he is just a weird 14 year old boy. In any case, he says he will do it for free so…Go Crazy Pills.

Another builder named Taj, 18 years old in San Diego, has volunteered to build our Castle in the Sky in Alphaworld. If we like the work, Taj wouldn’t mind the $20.

I set out only wanting ONE castle in Alphaworld, but the difficulties working with Crazy Pills lead to me “hiring” Taj. Then I eventually found out Crazy Pills really was going to do it for us in both AlphaWorld and AWteen. So we may end up with 3 castles! Go figure.

10/10/2003 Recruiting builder(s) for ActiveWorld Meeting Hall

I am planning on having Wisdom Project staff meetings in a 3d virtual environment. I expect this will be a very interesting, convenient, and effective way to meet people from all over the world. The virtual environment I have selected is Alphaworld, owned by a company called ActiveWorlds, which is the oldest 3D virtual environment on the Internet. We will be able to build a meeting hall with links to our site and whatever information we want to distribute. With that in mind....

I became a citizen of ActiveWorlds and started advertising for a builder. This is what I posted:

New educational organization is looking for a talented activeworld builder
to help construct an initial building and eventually a world for our
Activeworld office. First construction project will take place in
AlphaWorld.

We are looking for an architect to construct some special meeting places for
our soon to be non profit educational organization. We need someone not
only talented in design, but also knowledgeable in connecting links to
multimedia content. Another one of our projects will be a virtual library
based in our activeworld world. I am really hoping we can find a special
person to serve as our master architect for a long period of time,
preferably someone interested in the spirit of our organization. Eventually
we are hoping this job will be performed on a volunteer basis by an officer
in our organization. Again please visit our web page to begin to get a
sense of what we are about.

The name of our organization is The Wisdom Project

Here are the details of the project:

***************
The Wisdom Project Alphaworld Castle in the Sky

The Wisdom Project main office

Location: Alphaworld

Description:
We would like an inspiring, beautiful, comfortable, and highly functional
meeting place.
It needs to be comfortable for 5-10 people, but able to handle 100's of
people if needed.
It will also serve as our base of information.

My idea this morning was a castle in the sky. Located in an easy to find
spot in Alphaworld. In the sky.with a waterfall or something like that
going from the ground up to the castle. ("Castle in the sky" is a reference
to what literary genius?? Bonus points if you know that.)

The main meeting hall (inside or on top of the castle) will have a podium at
one end for the main speaker. This podium will have a banner that is a link
to our web site. Their will be several other podium's around the room in a
circle each with a link to various web sites. I want this meeting space to
be casual yet formal. I am not trying to make people look like kings and
queens or anything.even though we are in a castle. The meeting hall will
also serve as an informational resource with lots of links for when we are
not there. It will eventually have links to many different types of
resources and multimedia content.

Other than that, I want the castle to be a beautiful rich place to hang out
and explore.

This article on our website sums up the spirit of what we are about:
http://www.thesearchforwisdom.com/community/boards/viewthread.php?tid=39

I will pay $20 for the construction of this first building in alpha world.
I am really hoping eventually we can have someone be our activeworld master
architect who will manage all our building projects for free.

If you are interested let me know:

Can you do this?
Will you do it for $20?
How old are you?
Tell me a little of your story:

Instructions sent to GJ for Hacks on Wisdom Project Forums
I have a couple more hacks I would like to hire you to do for my forum at http://www.thesearchforwisdom.com

Instructions to GJ

My message board is about problem solving. People will post problems and then people will respond with solutions. Of course people will also respond with comments and questions. I need to know which replies are genuine “solutions” and which replies are just comments.

Then using the ratings system you helped build, I will produce reports with the highest rated “solutions” to the problems.

Here is what I want you to do:

Part 1.
Below the body of the message in the post reply form, above the check box disable smiley’s, I want the following question in bold type:

“Does your post contain a solution to the problem stated in the opening post of this thread? (If you are simply making a comment or posing a question choose no.)” Yes or No
The answer should default to No.

I do not want people to see this question when they start a new thread. Whenever someone starts a thread I want this field to default to No.

This task will involve creating a new field in the XMB_Posts table I think. Please do not delete posts currently in the table. For all current posts simply enter No for this field.

Part 2
Please make sure that the edit a post routine enables administrators to change this field in case people mess up.

Part 3
Statistics
I need the ability to generate a new statistics page. It will calculate and display the top 10 most rated posts and the top 10 highest rated “solutions”. It will also display the top 10 highest rated “comments”. But I want this page to be able to be generated based upon posts only in a specific thread OR a specific forum.

I would like to be able to view this filtered statistics page for any forum or thread. Perhaps you could put a button on link next to the title of every forum and thread that says “View Report Card” or “View Filtered Stats”? If you have a better or easier idea let me know.

Ok. Let me know if all that makes sense and how much work it will take.

Matt

******
Once GJ makes this alteration, I can experiment with exporting the tables to Access and running reports. I need to determine the exact formula I want used to calculate post ratings, and user ratings. Then I need to describe to GJ the way I want a debate report to appear.

Next is the User Report Card.

Debate Report. A statistics page that can be run for an entire forum, subforum, or for a single thread.
Same type of data on statistics page but filtered for a section of the forum.

User Report Card. A statisitics report that can be run for a single user based upon all data, data from a single forum, or data from a single thread.

I wrote this essay about the Wisdom Project and how I see it working. There is a permanent link to this essay now from the About the Wisdom Project page.

The Wisdom Project: The Machine

The Wisdom Project’s purpose is to foster wisdom through dialogue. It is a type of think tank, yet it is not exclusive. Anyone anywhere is invited to participate in the dialogue and help this think tank produce useful information. No voices are given greater weight for any reason other than the quality of their contribution. Every member helps judge the quality of every contribution. You might think of it as a type of cooking. We all contribute ingredients to the stew…and we all help cook and season it. Much is thrown out and only the very best is served at the end of the process. Keep reading and hopefully you will see what I mean.

Wisdom is knowledge of what is most important.
Dialogue is the process of communication where parties work to express their ideas and understand the ideas of others.

The Wisdom Project is also about problem solving. For what is knowledge of what is most important, if not the solutions to the most critical problems? Wisdom is know what problems are most important and wisdom is also the solution, or solutions.

What are the most important questions and problems? What are the solutions and answers to these questions and problems? That is a never ending question, for both each person individually, and humanity as a whole. Yet, the purpose of the Wisdom Project is to help facilitate the process of identifying the answers, the process of acquiring wisdom.

How does the Wisdom Project work?
The Wisdom Project’s mission is to foster wisdom through dialogue. I think of it as a machine, much like a cider press. How does a cider press work? Well, you put apples into the front of the press, run it through a process of crushing and pressing to extract the juice, and out of the other end comes the precious Apple Cider.

The Wisdom Project is a machine for doing this exact same thing with information. Into the top of the machine go questions, problems, answers, and solutions. Out of the other end of the machine comes a list of the most important questions and problems…as well as the best solutions and answers we can come up with.

Building this machine is no simple matter. The Wisdom Project exists right now, but perfecting its design is the only thing that will enable it to produce the most useful and meaningful wisdom. For starters we need apples to put into the machine! Second we need to figure out the best way to foster and stimulate the dialogue so it is productive. I have many ideas about how to accomplish this, but I am always looking for help.

Let me start with describing my initial vision of the inner machinery.

The Nuts and Bolts of extracting Wisdom from Dialogue
I want to be able to take any problem, no matter how big and difficult, and present it to the Wisdom Project machine…and allow it to process this problem with enthusiasm, creativity, critical thinking, debate, in depth questioning, and relentless dedication until it produces a list of several of the best solutions humanity is capable of constructing. I want these solutions to be so impressive and well thought out that these solutions are regularly used and implemented in the real world. How can the Wisdom Project achieve this goal? Again it is through dialogue.

The heart of the Wisdom Project machinery is a forum. The forum is a well designed forum much like thousands of others on the Internet. Yet, it is more than just another forum, it is a forum modified to extract wisdom. How? Through post rating. In other words, every post in every forum can be rated for its quality (or wisdom) by any member of the forums.

The Power of individual Post rating
Why is the power of rating individual posts such a big deal? Why will this enable the Wisdom Project forums to become a machine for extracting wisdom from ideas? This is where it gets difficult for me to convey my vision of how this machine works. Let’s try an example.

Assume we have hundreds of eager people ready to debate any question or problem we post in the wisdom project forum.
Now we submit the problem:

Health Insurance
43.6 million people in the US do not have health insurance.
8.5 Million Children in the US do not have health insurance.
Question:
Hopefully, we can all agree we would like to live in a world where all people have health insurance so they can take care of their health and well being. If you had the power and influence to change the USA, what would you do to solve the problem of so many people and children without health insurance? Or, do you believe the current health care systems and policies are the best solution?

Now, the Wisdom Project machine begins to go to work. Let’s suppose 100 people submit well thought out solutions to the problem of health insurance. Some ideas are socialist, some are brutally capitalist, others are a mixture in between. Some people argue that people should pay for their own health insurance, and they would be able to do that if we lowered taxes and helped stimulate the economy. Others believe it is the duty of the state to provide free health insurance to all citizens. Others believe children should be gauranteed health insurance while adults should fend for themselves. Etc…Etc…the debate rages on. Yet, with one exception: Every time someone posts a solution, poses a question, or responds to a criticism, their post can and is rated by everyone participating in the debate.

The debate rages on and on for a couple of weeks. People don’t just post solutions, but they post criticisms and responses. They discuss their ideas, some people even change their minds. People find common ground and identify fundamental differences in political ideology. After a few weeks of intense dialogue, what do we have? We will have a powerful list of solutions, thanks to the post rating system.

Of course, this won’t be proven until this system is put to the test. But this is what I predict. At the end of the debate, we will be able to extract a list of the highest rated Solutions to our problem. But what solutions will be the highest rated? Well, this is part of the experiment, but I predict you will always find the highest rated solutions are indeed the most well thought out, the most well defended, and those championed by people who are the most considerate and open minded.

Wisdom will rise to the top
Remember wisdom is demonstrated not simply by what one says, but how one says it.

I predict that wise posts and people who post wisely will rise to the top of the ratings.

People who simply rant and rave at others will obviously have very low rated posts. Likewise, people who eloquently state their solution, yet respond with arrogance and disdain to all criciticism will likewise be rated low. On the other hand, people who post a well thought out solution, respond politely to all criticism, demonstrate an open mind, patiently explain why they think their solution would best overcome all alternatives…will be the most highly rated by the most people.

Let me give another example. Suppose we debated abortion. Should it be legal or illegal, or some combination depending upon situation.

After weeks of intense debate there will be 3 basic positions. Legal, Illegal, and then combination positions (late term abortions and rape and incest exceptions etc..) We will be able to extract the highest rated answer/argument in support of each of the 3 major positions. Why will this be valuable? Because the people who have the highest rated answer for each position will be very special people. They will have expressed their position eloquently and effectively enough to receive high ratings from their allies, but they will also have impressed their opponents with their eloquence and style of communication.

The Wisdom Project Forums will encourage and nurture friendly open debate skills.
People will want to win debates and be the highest rated defender of their arguments. But to do this you must not only impress your allies, but you must impress your opponents.

Let’s say for example, someone presents an argument that you see is highly flawed and vulnerable. You could choose to rip into that argument with caustic sarcasm and wit. This might receive high ratings from your allies…but this might really offend your opponents. They may feel hurt and humiliated by your tone, so they would rate you very low. But what if you took a different tactic?

What if instead of piercing sarcasm, you gently but succinctly explained to your opponents why this argument was no good. Instead of humiliating them, you took a tone of teaching, really trying to convey to them why what they said did not make sense. This would still impress your allies, but your opponents wouldn’t hate you for it. In fact you may gain their respect and even change some minds.

The End of Vacuous Rhetoric
What is more frustrating then a nationally televised debate where nothing of substance is said? This is the norm now for political debates and press conferences. Such political behavior will never be effective in the Wisdom Project Forums. The only types of posts that will receive high ratings are posts that genuinely express a solution to the problem being debated. Anyone who posts vacuous meaningless drivel, the equivalent of a response a politician would normally give, would be rated in accordance with what they said.

In the world today, what makes a person’s voice heard and noticed? Who they are and what they have accomplished. A politician’s voice is heard because they hold office. A PHD scholar’s voice is respected because they have letters after their name. But perhaps Joe Schmoe a local social studies teacher has the wisest solution to a particular problem. How would anyone ever hear about it? In the real world, Joe Schmoe would have to fight to have anyone hear their voice. But in the Wisdom Project forums, Joe Schmoe could simply eloquently post their view, respond to questions and criticism, and suddenly Joe Schmoe would find his view rising to the top of the heap-why? Because of the quality of his ideas. Not who he is. Not what he has done in life. The quality of his ideas alone would give him stature, as it should be.

A place to learn
I hope you are beginning to see the power of this Wisdom Project machine. It is merely a way of improving upon a mature technology-the technology of the modern bulliten board. There is another important element of the Wisdom Project Forum System: The feedback each person who participates will receive, will enable profound learning.

Naturally, the primary way you should learn in a debate is through listening to opposing arguments and questions. But the Wisdom Project post rating system, will enable a whole new way to learn about yourself and others.

The Wisdom Project will provide individual members with report cards in which a potentially enormous amount of interesting information will be displayed. For instance, members will be able to see which of their posts were the most controvercial, that is which of their posts receieved the most ratings. Members will also be able to see which of their posts were considered the most wise or the most foolish. Members will be able to see how they are rated by other members over all, by averaging the rating they received for every post they ever made. Finally, members will be able to see how they are rated by different segments of the population-based simply upon all members wisdom rating.

For example, I expect there will be interesting differences between which people receive thehighest overall rating from the total populace, and which people receives the highest overall rating from just the top 30% of the populace. I may be wrong, but we will just have to wait and see.

The Power of a Wisdom Rating
The potency and meaningfulness of a wisdom rating cannot be underestimated. A person’s overall wisdom rating will reflect upon the quality of their ideas, how well they communicate, how effectively they discuss controvercial subjects, how well they respond to criticism and attack, and finally how well they learn and grow as a result of debate and discussion. I expect a high wisdom rating will eventually grow to be an incredibly respected thing, very difficult to achieve and maintain.

Imagine if the Wisdom Project forum hosted 12 1 month debates a year on the most important questions of our day. The debates were intense and attracted hundreds if not thousands of participants. At the end of the year, imagine qualities of the people that would have the highest overall wisdom rating’s. Imagine the person who would have the single highest wisdom rating for that year? This person will have had to have presented many very good original ideas, responded to tons of criticism and attacks, and impressed opponents and allies alike. It will be quite an accomplishment..and I expect a very special person. And so what better than a nationally recognized award which is accompanied by a cash prize?

Every year, there can be an award for the Wisest person in the USA, even one per state and for other countries. Also, a wisest person in the world is a natural option. This award could and should be on a par with a Nobel Prize, for it is a type of nobel prize for debate and problem solving.

Forget SAT’s….Achieve a high Wisdom Rating
Imagine if a high school student participated in numerous wisdom project discussions over the course of his or her high school career. The wisdom rating of a student could become as important a score as an SAT or GRE. Would it not tell you an enormous amount about the student? Perhaps there would be a yearly award for the highest wisdom rating among graduating seniors along with significant scholarship money.

The Wisdom Project
The Wisdom Project is an organization whose mission is to foster wisdom. The central means it uses to accomplish this goal is through creating and stimulating meaningful constructive dialogue. Eventually, the Wisdom Project will formally be made into a non-profit organization so that it can accept tax deductible charitable contributions.

The Wisdom Project is a machine and I believe it can and will be a powerful force. Yet, to work it needs several things. It needs thoughtful engineering and design. It needs people who have the wisdom to know what questions should be debated and discussed. Once the machine is engineered correctly it simply needs to be fed and maintained.

The fuel this machine runs on is people, their ideas, their minds. And like everything else, it can acquire this vital fuel using money. Money will be raised and used to stimulate and motivate people to invest their time and energy in the forums and debates. At first cash prizes will be offered to stimulate initial participation in the forums. Eventually, a large cash prize will be offered to the national (USA) Wisest Person of the year, and perhaps a scholarship for a high school graduate.

To make all this happen, I need help, from inspired intelligent people. I hope you are one such person.
